Do not let this brick of grape juice ferment if you are reading this from the 1920s. Do not.

Just putting instructions for how to remove Kobo Store DRM books. I absolutely do not advocate removing DRM from digital content you buy. Do not do this. These instructions are for informational purposes only.

Install the Software

Steps

  1. Download and install Calibre and the Kobo Desktop application from the above links. (Linux users: the Windows version runs fine in WINE. I used the standard default Bottles prefix.)
  2. Log into the Kobo Desktop app with your Kobo account. Click My Books. Click the Download arrow on all your books.
  3. Download the deDRM plugin from the above link. Click the link under Releases on the right side, then click the .zip file. Extract the zip file somewhwere. You should have an Obok_plugin.zip and another zip. We only need the Obok one.
  4. Run Calibre. Click Next a bunch until you're at the main calibre screen. Click Preferences, then click Plugins, then click Get Plugin From File. Find Obok_plugin.zip. Click through the warnings and when you're back at the Plugins screen, close it and restart Calibre.
  5. There should be a new button on Calibre. Obok DeDRM. Click it. It should find and identify all of the books. Let it do its thing and once the books show up in Calibre's main screen, they are de-DRMed for you to send to your non-Kobo devices.
